The tour then continues by car right past the Eyjafjallajökull volcano towards the great Mýrdalsjökull glacier, one of the largest in Iceland. Day 4 - Arrive Akureyri, the largest town in the north of Iceland
This morning, take the flybus to the domestic airport where you'll board a 60 minute flight to the beautiful town of Akureyri.
Often referred to as the "capital" of the north, Akureyri is by far the largest town in the north of Iceland and it's the second largest urban area in Iceland with a population little less than 20,000. Located only 60 kilometres from the Arctic circle, the mountains in the area are often capped with snow year round.
For the next two nights you'll be staying at the comfortable hotel right in the town's centre.
Day 5 - Explore Lake Mývatn, Goðafoss , Hverir Mud Pools, Grjótagjá Rift, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and many more
Today you will be entering the other worldly landscapes of Lake Myvatn where the scenes for "North of the Wall" were filmed. You will be picked up at your hotel at 8am and then have a full day of touring this area.
The Lake Mývatn area is considered by many to be the most beautiful and, at the same time, the most catastrophic place in Iceland. You will begin the day by stopping at Goðafoss Waterfall on our way to Lake Mývatn. Goðafoss is a picturesque waterfall in Skjálfandafljót River. The first stop by Lake Mývatn is at the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar. From there we visit all the highlights of the area, such as Hverir Mud Pools, Grjótagjá Rift, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and many more.
Our last stop by Lake Mývatn before our return to Akureyri is the Mývatn Nature Baths where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in a Geothermal Pool. The entry fee to the Nature Baths is not included in the tour price, but can be added as extra or paid on sight. We stop for at least 1 hour at the Nature Baths.
You will stop along the way for lunch (not included) and we recommend bringing good walking shoes, bathing suit and towel (can be rented), water bottle and warm clothing in winter time.
