What makes a good tour guide
Interview with our expert Scandinavian tour leader, Anne-Marie Reinholdt about the pleasures of guiding.
"I often get the remark “you are so good at what you do”, but being good at tour guiding is not at all difficult when you love your job as much as I do. I have been a tour guide for more than 30 years and I still love the job. It is actually not just “a job” it is rather a lifestyle – and a privileged one at that.
Not two days are alike, not two groups are the same – and one of the things I truly treasure is “repeat guests”. I love when the guests come back to do another trip with me and it actually happens every season.
Learning about new places and new things, and sharing this knowledge with my guests is a passion of mine. I have gotten so much in return from all the different and wonderful people I have had the opportunity of meeting during my years as a tour guide. I have learned so much from them.
A very wise elderly gentleman in one of my groups, once said to me ”people do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care” and that really sums it all up to me. As a tour guide you have to love people – and I do! "
Thank you Anne-Marie for this insight into tour guiding.
